Resident-Turned-Publisher Brings Her Ridgeland Community Together

Area Directors Smiling together at Conference

You could say the opportunity to own and publish my own neighborhood magazine fell right into my lap. I feel fortunate to work with such an awesome company and to be surrounded by so many supportive teammates, who are now friends.

You could say the opportunity to own and publish my own neighborhood magazine fell right into my lap. As a full-time artist with experience in sales and marketing from way back, I found a fun pastime helping with story ideas, new sponsors, events, and more for Bridgewater Living as a resident contributor. My husband, Bill, and I had loved and enjoyed the magazine and events for many years.

Well, when the current publisher was going back to school and had to give up the magazine, I was asked if I had any interest in taking it over – and I’m so glad I did! I joined N2 Publishing in the fall of 2018, and (re)launched Bridgewater Living in February 2019. It’s been a great two plus years – so much so that I just recently took on a second publication and am launching Beyond the Gates in Oxford, MS, this June.

Neighborhood Networking

We’ve had lots of events in our neighborhoods over the years. And despite the pandemic, we found other ways to connect more recently through neighborhood scavenger hunts, outdoor markets, food trucks, “chalk your walk” activities, Halloween hayrides, Easter egg hunts, and more.

I’ve also donated free advertising space to several nonprofits, The Mustard Seed and The American Heart Association and Newk’s Cares and More Than A Meal through N2’s 501(c)(3) program. Each year, we share information about their annual fundraising efforts and feature the amazing work of our neighbors and sponsors who volunteer their time for the nonprofits as well.

Since taking the publications on, I’ve been able to step up the magazine content and connect not only Bridgewater Living and Beyond the Gates residents to each other through stories and events, but connect them with our amazing sponsors as well. The neighbors are so helpful in gathering info and suggesting story ideas.

Bridgewater Living had 28 monthly sponsors before I took over. We have over 80 now! I received the President Club award my first year with N2, and recently reached another milestone in sales, along with launching my second magazine, Beyond the Gates, this June.

Personally, the financial freedom of owning my own publication business is unbelievable. It’s such a blessing for my family and has afforded us opportunities to do more and give more without the worry of going into debt. I love contributing to the family income in such a way that is so helpful.

To put it simply, the feedback and participation from both residents and community sponsors have been incredible. The community is so kind and I’m so glad to have this avenue to connect with neighbors. I love hearing positive feedback from those who enjoy the magazines – I even keep a list of testimonials in my phone notes and periodically share them in the magazine and on our social media.

Resident & Client Testimonials

"My business Monkee's of Ridgeland sponsors Bridgewater Living. I cannot say enough great things about the magazine and its publisher, Tay Morgan. Tay works tirelessly to create the most beautiful magazine every month and has gone out of her way for both her advertisers and neighbors this past year during the challenges of COVID-19. Tay and the magazines have been wonderful partners in promoting our business, as well as all of their local advertisers both in the magazine and on social media. We look forward to a continued partnership with Tay and her magazines for years to come!"

More About Tay

I was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, and attended the University of Mississippi, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. I worked in sales and sales management before my children were born, then scaled back to part-time. After that, I went back to painting full-time and volunteering in the community.

Bill and I moved into our home in Bridgewater at Old Agency in 2014 and that is when I learned about this wonderful neighborhood publication and all that N2 offers! Bill and I love spending time with family and friends in Ridgeland and we also love our “home away from home” in Oxford watching Ole Miss sports and connecting with old friends in town.

We have two children, Meggie and her husband Tripp who live in Washington, DC, and our son, Cossar and his fiance’ Catie, who will be married in August and live in Memphis, TN.

My husband, Bill, is my biggest cheerleader and is always so proud of me. My two sisters, my mom, dad, and my daughter all help with the magazines in one way or another. They're always thinking of new potential sponsors for me to contact, proofreading, writing articles for the magazine, and suggesting story ideas.

I am truly blessed by N2 and the opportunity I have been given. I feel fortunate to work with such an awesome company and to be surrounded by so many supportive teammates, who are now friends.

If you’re looking for a second career that helps build community while providing financial freedom and flexibility, investigate the N2 Area Director role further, and reach out to see if this opportunity is a good fit.
