Nestled in the heart of Barboursville, the Beter family is not just a household name; they're part of the fabric of the community. Jason and Krista Beter, along with their sons Lukas and Noah, are a dynamic force, weaving together family bonds and entrepreneurial ventures that have left an indelible mark on the town.

Jason and Krista Beter have been married for 27 years, their union forged in the hallways of Barboursville Middle School, “We met in 8th-grade gym class and have been together ever since," Jason reminisces, a testament to the enduring connection that started at a young age. Married in July 1996, the couple has become a cornerstone of the community.

Entrepreneurs at heart, the Beters are the proud owners of Oscar's Breakfast, Burgers & Brews, 1861 Public House, Orbit’s Record Shop, Köerber Beer Company, and Giovanni’s Huntington. Their diverse ventures speak to their passion for providing unique experiences to the community, from delicious meals to the joy of vinyl records.

Their sons, Lukas (27) and Noah (22), have already left their mark. "Lukas attended Marshall University and, at the age of 20, developed Oscar’s Breakfast, Burgers & Brews menu and helped start the restaurant," Jason proudly shares,  Meanwhile, Noah, a Marshall graduate as well, has assumed the role of head brewer at the family's new brewery, Koerber Beer Company. .

The family extends beyond the immediate household, with two adorable grandkids, Aiden (6) and Delilah (7 months), bringing joy and laughter. The Beter family also includes two small dogs, Izzy and Orbit, adding a furry dimension to their bustling household.

"As entrepreneurs, we've always been drawn to creating experiences for the community. Whether it's through delicious meals or the nostalgic charm of a record shop, our ventures reflect our commitment to offering something special," Jason explains, underscoring the family's dedication to enhancing community life.

Lukas, in addition to being the vice president of the family company, wears multiple hats as the head chef and a dedicated baseball coach of Aiden's team. His love for music is evident as he showcases his drumming skills, adding a rhythmic beat to the family's diverse talents. "Noah graduated from Marshall University and is now the head brewer at our brewery," Jason notes, highlighting Noah's pivotal role in the family's foray into the craft beer industry. “He has just started a family and had to recently decline a High School baseball coaching position due to starting the brewery, although he will eventually get back into coaching.”

The Beters are not just business owners; they are actively involved in giving back to the community. "We donate to many local charities and schools. We try to help out as many youth sports teams as possible. We also endow an athletic scholarship at Marshall University," Krista shares, shedding light on the family's commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

As a family, they strive to uphold traditions, such as taking beach vacations together. Some favorite destinations are beaches in Florida and North Carolina. "We try to take beach vacations as a full family. It’s getting harder since they are grown with their own families now," Krista reflects, emphasizing the family's dedication to maintaining traditions despite the challenges of changing dynamics.

The Beters are passionate about Marshall University sports and the Houston Astros. In fact the colors of Oscar's logo borrows for the Astros team colors.

Having moved back to East Pea Ridge in July 2020, the Beters find solace and familiarity in the quiet neighborhood. "We love how quiet our neighborhood is. Krista grew up in East Pea Ridge, and I pretty much spent my entire teen years at her house. Moving back to East Pea Ridge was like coming home," Jason says, reflecting on the comforting embrace of their community.

Beyond their business ventures, the Beters find relaxation in life's simple joys, "Hanging out with friends at dinner or having drinks," Jason states when asked about their favorite way to relax, capturing the essence of their laid-back approach to life. Jason and Krista share a  love for traveling, exploring restaurants and breweries, and enjoying golf (Jason) and concerts.

The Beter family, with its deep roots in Barboursville, continues to shape the town's landscape through a combination of business acumen, community involvement, and a genuine love for the place they call home. As they prepare to open their new brewery, the Beters' journey is a testament to the power of family, entrepreneurship, and a steadfast commitment to community building.
