January MGA Tournament Postponed Twice

Mike Hovendick celebrates two holes in one.

January was a brutal month for the weather on Lake Conroe. First, we were hit by an Arctic freeze followed by multiple rain events that forced the Bentwater Men’s Golf Association (MGA) to postpone its January tournament not once, but twice in two weeks. The Three-Man Step Back Scramble is one of the most popular events each year and 2024 was no exception with 126 golfers registered for the January 20th tournament. Unfortunately, several days of torrential rain forced the MGA board to reschedule the tournament to February 3rd. The unplayable conditions on the Bentwater Weiskopf course that day forced another postponement to a later date to be determined.

The next MGA tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 23rd on the WeiskopfCourse. It's a Two-man Shamble/Scramble with holes 1-9 using a shamble format and holes 10-18 using a Scramble format. Registration closes March 19th with a maximum field of 96 players.

MGA Play Day Participation Growing

The MGA Play Days have already started in 2024 and there continues to be growing interest in these weekly outings. MGA members can register on each Thursday morning tee sheet for the Weiskopf Course and earn points that can qualify for the three Play Day Tournaments throughout the year with cash prizes awarded for each. So come on out and meet some new MGA members and qualify for the tournaments.

Four Aces

Despite the inclement weather in January, four MGA members reported a hole-in-one during the month. The golfers who accomplished this special feat are:

Russell Schellenger – Weiskopf #8
Ron Parish – Miller #17
Mike Bourgeois – Miller #4
Kurt Martin – Miller #11

Notable Correction

Last month we reported that MGA member Mike Hovendick had a hole-in-one on December 18th on hole #11 on the Miller Course. What we thought to be a duplicate report was actually a second hole-in-one less than two weeks later on December 30th. Mike aced the 17th hole on the Weiskopf Course and doubled his December delight. Congratulations Mike on this rare accomplishment.
