Switzerland, Land of Beauty!

Even though Switzerland seems like a small country, many regions exist to explore. I have visited in the past Geneva, Lausanne, and most of the French part of Switzerland, and recently, I had the opportunity to visit the picturesque state of Garubunden, Interlaken, Zurich, and the artistic Basel.

Garubunden is a land of pristine alpine landscapes. Picture-perfect valleys dotted with charming villages, crystal-clear lakes reflecting snow-capped peaks, and lush green meadows that stretch as far as the eye can see, home to enchanting towns such as Bad Ragaz, Maienfeld, and Chur. Renowned for their idyllic landscapes, rich history, and unparalleled luxury, these hidden gems offer an unforgettable experience.

We stayed in Bad Ragaz, a place of rejuvenation and relaxation; it is famed for its natural thermal waters that have been celebrated for centuries. A visit to the renowned Tamina Therme is an absolute must for those seeking to indulge in the healing powers of these mineral-rich waters, the first patients to test the waters were laboriously lowered into the gorge in baskets suspended from ropes. They spent weeks immersed in the water in a quest to heal their ailments. When you see it, it's hard to comprehend how they did it back then.  Later, a bathhouse was built at the gorge entrance. Since 1840, a pipeline has led directly from the spring to the village of Bad Ragaz, initiating Bad Ragaz's age of spa tourism. Imagine immersing yourself in warm, soothing pools surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery, allowing all your worries to disappear.

If you like playing golf, this is a place to do it. Bad Ragaz boasts not one but two championship golf courses, the challenging 18-hole Bad Ragaz Golf Club and the 9-hole Heidiland Golf Club. Tee off amidst the stunning backdrop of the Swiss Alps, amazing views are accompanied by every swing.

It is also home to the famous Heidi Village, which inspired the beloved children's book character, Heidi. Step back in time as you explore the traditional Swiss houses and immerse yourself in the story of this timeless heroine. The village is a true testament to the region's rich cultural heritage and will leave you with memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Just a short distance lies the captivating town of Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland. Steeped in history and culture, Chur captivates you with its well-preserved medieval architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and charming squares. Taking a stroll through the Old Town, you feel like you've stepped back in time. The impressive Chur Cathedral is an architectural masterpiece that has stood the test of time since its construction in the 12th century. Enjoy the bustling markets, where local artisans showcase their crafts and delicacies.

The surrounding mountains offer beautiful hiking expeditions, where you are rewarded with awe-inspiring vistas of snow-capped peaks and verdant valleys. With its picturesque landscapes, it is a haven for nature lovers.

As you wander through the rolling hills and vineyards, the scent of blooming flowers fills the air, transporting you to a world of tranquility. The region is known for its exquisite wines, and visiting one of the local vineyards is a must. Sip on a glass of the finest Suisse wine crafted with passion and expertise, choose from the local Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, and bask in the breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps in the distance.

Basel, a cultural gem on the banks of the Rhine River, completes our journey through this luxurious state. Basel is a haven for art connoisseurs, Boasting over 40 museums and a calendar teeming with cultural events. Immerse yourself in the works of the great masters at the Fondation Beyeler or marvel at the avant-garde exhibits of the Museum Tinguely. As the sun sets, explore the city's culinary marvels, where Michelin-starred restaurants entice your taste buds with their innovative cuisine. After dinner have a stroll along the Rhine promenade, soaking in the enchanting views of the illuminated cityscape.

Interlaken, renowned as the adventure capital of Switzerland, adds a dash of adrenaline to your visit. From paragliding high above the alpine peaks to canyoning in the gushing waterfalls, this exhilarating destination promises to get your heart racing.
