Chilly Chicken

I can remember being quarantined at home with my family and wondering if we would ever again have social events to attend. And, if so, would we ever be brazening enough to participate in social events without wearing face masks? Four years later, many of us seize every opportunity to join with others as often as possible, and I have developed a new appreciation for living in Tarrington.

As we drive in and out of the neighborhood, there is always an event opportunity posted on the announcements board, and I cannot help but smile. Today, our family will play Bingo at the clubhouse, and in less than a month, we will don our green to ‘Shamrock the Block.’ In addition to the consistent offerings by the social committee, I have stretched my wings and been attending the events offered by Stroll Magazine as well. The Wine Tasting with the Nuchols was a great night of meeting new people and new wines. We also got to experience a novel charcuterie company, which was delicious and beautifully presented.

On February 22, I joined fellow Tarrington residents and Stroll advertisers to enjoy dinner at Saheb Indian Bistro in the Buckingham Station shopping center. Our buffet-style meal included traditional Indian cuisines such as tandoori chicken, paneer tikka masala, and lamb korma. For dessert, we were spoiled with the gulab jamun and rice pudding, along with a champagne toast to old friends and new.  Residents were fortunate to spend time with the owner, and the chef even found time to break away from the kitchen to introduce himself and say hello. A Tarrington resident, Sham, writes, “Thank you so much for providing a wonderful evening with good food and even better company. I enjoyed talking to you. Thanks for bringing our community together!”

Saheb Indian Bistro Indian cuisine is incredibly diverse, with significant regional variations. Northern Indian cuisine, where owner Shyam Sharma hales from, specializes and stands apart from its southern counterparts. Unlike Southern India, where ingredients like coconut oil, peanuts, and certain fruits take center stage, northern Indian cuisine relies on different flavors.

The menu prepared by Chef Ashish showcased the variety of what Saheb has to offer.
chilly chicken, paneer tikka masala, lamb korma, tandoori chicken, butter chicken
chole punjabi, and corn spinach. Rice and fresh naan bread accompanied all.
To wrap up the meal, we had a flavorful rice pudding and gulab jamun, a small ball of dough deep-fried and soaked in rose-flavored sugar syrup.
